hi, im fairly new to the bonsai world... i have owned 2 bonsais that were gifts from family. unfortunatly they were bought from low end dealers and i had absolutly no idea how to care for them so needless to say they are no longer with us. ive been doing research alot lately and have come to the conclusion that i want to start my own bonsai. i saw a video where the guy used spagnum moss instead of traditional bonsai soil, and i was just curious to see what some opinions were on this method. do u think it will be a good method for me to start on as a novice? i have a very very limited budget and as far as i know there is not a garden center near me that specializes in bonsai or even has a section devoted to bonsai. i look forward to hearing feed back as u are my only life line to the bonsai world lol.

Spagnum moss can be used as a soil component (especially for acid loving trees), but I personally wouldn't use it 100% for the soil. It tends to stay too wet for most trees and when it dries out it is hard to get it wet again.
