Pruning is the process of removing portions of the foliage, twigs and branches, or roots that make up a tree or shrub used for bonsai.
Pruning can be accomplished with bonsai shears or special tools like concave cutters. Pruning can be used to make a tree conform to a bonsai artist's design plan, or it can be intended to help meet the tree's horticultural needs, for ventilation and light.

Pruning can help promote backbudding. Pruning can help to rejuvenate a tree, in particular the periodic pruning of the root system when trees are repotted creates a more efficient network of feeder roots.

Hello,
* One, to remove branches that clutter the chosen style and obstruct our basic design.
* Two, pruning to redirect growth (we prune one area heavily and another much less; growth is directed to the less pruned area)
* Third, we have fine pruning techniques like leaf pruning, and bud or candle pinching to encourage fine branching and back-budding.
Bonsai pruning is one of the most important things in bonsai care. By doing the pruning you’ll give to the bonsai tree the shape that you want, you can shorten it and get the bonsai tree stem thickening too.
Pruning is necessary to maintain (or refine growth to obtain) the right shape of a bonsai and encourage new growth. Some plants naturally respond well to pruning, regardless of how intense, whilst other plants can find it hard to recover, especially when pruned at the wrong time of the year. To prune correctly you must find out the type of plant your bonsai is and research when the best times are to prune old and new season growth.
Thanks.

Pruning is the hardist to do.I have a Black Monkey Thorn, informal style, which is way too big.The fact that is too big to fit in a car tells you something. I am going to have to join the local Bonsai club to get advice,as I am dead scared I am going to ruin it. It is growing a little too well. Looks like a little tree and nothing like a Bonsai.

Hey, can I use an Bosch ISIO for pruning a bonsai?

I am using a Japanese shears, called Bonsai Hasami Shears. It is inexpensive and very effective. :)

Have you tried using the Isio?

Sanitize or sterilize your cutting tools between different trees that you are trimming at the same time. This could save you from losing trees. You can use alcohol or simply put fire to the blades of your tools.
