Can anyone help? A relative passed away recently leaving behind about fifty-odd bonsai trees that he tended for years. We don't know how to look after them and they are suffering. We would rather they went to someone who appreciates them and won't kill them. How can we find good homes for them? Any ideas?

You will want to contact the closest bonsai society. If you let me know what city you live in I can try to get you in contact with someone. Depending upon the size and condition of the trees they might be very valuable. So before you give them away someone from the society should be able to advise you as to the value. If you choose to sell them or give them away they should be able to help you with that also.

Thank you so much. The trees are in Essex, UK. I have taken your advice and contacted a bonsai society in Colchester and am now waiting to hear from them. I have always loved the idea of bonsai but I don't have the patience. I might ask for one to keep though.

my condolences, vee, on your relative's passing.

i hope the local society was able to help out in finding a good home or homes for the plants. with 50 or so bonsai sounds like your relative was a very avid bonsai artist! hope the society was able to give you an idea of one to keep that would be a relatively easy one for you... get your foot in the door and turn you on to the art as well. were they able to let you know any of the different varieties or how old some of them were? just curious.

hang in there, and let us know if you do keep one, how it's doing, what kind it is, etc. hope you'll stick around!
