A big problem with watering potted trees is getting water to the bottom of the soil. With a standard watering the top of the soil gets the majority of the water!

There are 2 ways of doing this, if you pot has holes in the bottom you can simply place the pot into a dish of water and let the soil soak upwards.

A second way must be implemented when potting, you should put a hollow tube in the pot before filling with soil, when adding the soil make sure that the water doesn't go into the tube. So when the potting is completed you have a hollow tube which water can be passed down, therefore you can pass water right to the bottom.

I have heard this idea somewhere else actually, I really like it because it actually does get the water to the bottom.

However the only thing is if you forget to put it in they you have to dig a big hole to get it in again. :)

if you use a wattering can with a fine rosset, all you gotta do is soak the soil until the watter pours out the bottom hole of the pot, then w8 a few min,(i ushualy move to another tree at this time) then repeat once the watter has ben absorbed into soil, i repeat this proces three times to insure there are no pockets of dried soil, also it helps to insure you wash away any minrals left from hard watter. hope this helps out, g/l with ur trees
