Hello,

I've decide to purchase my 1st bonsai tree and would like to purchase an outdoor tree and (hopefully) keep it outdoors year round. My question is - are bonsai's just like any other shrub or tree in that I need to get a tree that will live in my zone (5-6)?

My guess is "yes" just wanted to make sure.

Any recommendations on what trees do well in my zone (5-6, NJ) is appreciated.

There are so many that will do well in your zone.\
Goto the local garden center of nursery and you will see.
Most Acers(Maples)
Juniperus (junipers)
