I am wondering what chemicals to watch out for that would make it a petrolium based insecticide? I am trying to find a non-petrolium based insecticide.
Also, if anyone can tell me proper treatment/doseage for scale on a Portulacaria Afra common name Dwarf Jade/Baby Jade, Elephants food, etc. would be of tremenous help.
Thanks,
Brian

FYI, Portulacaria afra does not like being spray with chemicals. Neem oil may work.

Hello,
Pests can be treated either chemically or organically and both methods can be extremely effective. When mixing insecticide solutions, always follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly. Too weak a solution and the insects will remain, too strong and the foliage may be damaged.
Bonsai Symptoms: Buds and shoots appear deformed and curled. A sticky sugary substance known as 'honeydew' appears, attracting ants and causing unsightly sooty mould.
Bonsai Chemical Solutions: Most systemic insecticides are suitable. Alternatively, try 'plant pins', which when pushed into the soil are absorbed into the tree's system, preventing the need for spraying. Root aphids should also be sprayed with systemic insecticides if apparent when repotting.
Bonsai Organic Solutions:Wash off with water spray (aphids do not climb back) and control with special soft soap sprays.
Thanks. :)
