I bought this Maple approximately a month ago.

I bought some seeds from different types of maples in January, but despite following all the hpot and cold directions, it did not germinate.

What is your opinion of layering the area just below the top ( 2cm below the top) and try another one going?
Will the trunk of the new one be two short?
And will the scarring on the original be too bad??

The cherry bush has a very thin trunk. I planted it at a 45 degreee angle.
Should I start to prune now, or get the trunk shorter with layering?

put it in the ground, grow it long and fast, chop back hard each year.

Any advice?

Is there anyone who has a thought- with the maple would propagation by cuttings be the best or layering, and if I layer, at what height??

IF the maple was in my collection i woulnt cut or layer the tree. DEpending on how much root space is in the present pot, meaning if it could live in the present pot for a year or two, i would take advantage of the huge pot its in and put a huge drastic bend in this potentionally beautiful tree by wiring the top down to the rim of the pot then working on the shape more after the bend has been accomplished. given the success rate of tranplanting it as the tree gets more and more rootbound will be decreased slighly i think the ends justify the means and will definately be worth the risk.
