I need some advice concering air layering a hollywood juniper. Now the concept of air layering it's self I know but do the same rules apply to junipers and pines? Or do I just mix some root hormone powder in the soil or sprinkle it on the bark, wrap and wait? Do I deglove the bark from the tree? Will the sap interfer with this process? Do I wait until spring? ( which in southern Az. starts in march...or do it just before ) I would like to have the answer to these questions before I begin. I have a few of these trees at home I got from Lowe's. One of the trees has a double trunk and I'm trying to make a literali and the other trunk I'm trying to make a windswept cascade with some deadwood work with it. Now the windswept...one of the braches wraps around behind the main trunk and comes up kind of level to the flow of the cascade. This branch I already did some deadwood on it and wrapped wire on it. The literali has some deadwood starting 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the trunk. Can help me with this challenge? Thank you so much...and if anyone wants to have a picture emailed to them just let me know.

I think a pic would help for the last question as I'm having some troubles following.
The air layering is a bit tougher on a conifer because they don't grow roots as fast. I would wait until spring, you will need to remove a section of bark and a little of the wood underneath, make the ring about 1/2 to 1 inch wide to prevent the cambium from healing back up. Put your rooting hormone on the wound and wrap in damp sphagnum moss. You have to make sure it stays moist through the process...hope this helps answering your questions, if not let me know what to be more clear on...I'll pm you with an email address later for a pic

Thanks for advice!!! I'll give it a try in the spring and I'll take some picks and try to post them...before the air layering starts.
